## Sunflower Oil

### Will the change in oil have an implication on Nutri-Score and other FOPLs?

In Europe, approximately 85% of our European recipes will not have a change in Nutri-Score* due to the oil change. We highly recommend the markets to do the calculations themselves locally. Due to the current ingredient shortage, we are having to make some temporary formulation changes to some of our recipes. The switch to palm oil will slightly change the nutritional profile of our products and in a few cases, it will result in a change of Nutri-Score rating for some of them. These changes will be communicated to consumers via FOPL schemes. * = European recipes coming from Torun PL, Rumilly FR, Itancourt FR, Avanca PT and European co-manufacturers

### To reflect 2022 sunflower oil supply issues: When will you change back to sunflower oil?

The change to sustainably sourced palm oil is a temporary change, to help ensure we can still produce products in our European factories. This situation is incredibly fluid, and it is very difficult to predict what will happen next. Here at CPW, we are working hard to continue to offer our full range of products and meet consumer expectations. We will transition back to sunflower oil as soon as possible.

### To reflect 2022 sunflower oil supply issues: Will consumers notice a difference when you move to palm oil?

No, they shouldn’t. All of our cereals have a clear and consistent ingredient specification and manufacturing process – the type of vegetable oil should not materially change the taste.

### Why did you change to palm oil and not another oil?

We thoroughly reviewed all possible alternatives and palm oil proved to be the best alternative due to its favorable characteristics, taste and availability. We continue to explore options of how we can best renovate our products, and we ensure this change to palm oil remains temporary.

### Why do you have oil in your cereals?

Its primary use is to help in the manufacturing process: it acts as a lubricant when we are shaping the product and, helps avoiding stickiness. In some products oil plays a role in the sensory profile – how the product feels and tastes in the mouth.

## Fortification

### Why are cereals fortified?

When cereals are ‘fortified’, it means they contain added vitamins and minerals to help our body work well. One 30g serving of a Nestlé fortified cereal can help your family get the vitamins and minerals they need every day. [Read more about fortified cereals here](https://www.nestle-cereals.com/uk/nutrition/fortified-cereal).

### Does breakfast cereal have Iron?

Yes, many are a source of iron, added via the fortification process. It’s a bonus for your family as research has shown that both kids and grownups who eat fortified cereals are more likely get all the minerals and vitamins they need. [Read more about Iron here](https://www.nestle-cereals.com/uk/nutrition/fortified-cereal/iron)

### What minerals and vitamins does Nestlé enrich its breakfast cereals with?

Most Nestlé breakfast cereals are usually fortified with a minimum of 5 vitamins (B2, B6, niacin or B3, pantothenic acid or B5, folic acid or B9 and, in some recipes, vitamin D), and 2 minerals (calcium and iron). [Read more about fortified cereals here](https://www.nestle-cereals.com/uk/nutrition/fortified-cereal).

### Does sugar in cereals make them an unhealthy choice?

No. The amount of sugar in breakfast cereals is no more (and often less) than other common breakfast choices like fruit and yogurt, fruit juice, or toast with jam.

### Do Nestlé breakfast cereals around the world all contain the same amount of sugar? If not, why not?

No. As tastes vary from region to region, the amount of sugar we add to our cereals depends on where they’re being sold. But we’re committed to ensuring the added sugar levels in our products for children and teenagers won’t exceed 9g per 30g serving from the end of 2015. And we’re always looking for ways to reduce sugar in our products – wherever in the world they’re sold.

We recommend that you always check the ingredient lists and nutrition declarations on the packs of all our products before you purchase to see the very latest product information.

### How can I increase my whole grain intake?

1- Look out for 'whole' on the label – wholemeal, whole wheat and whole oats are all whole grains. 2- Swap refined white breads, pasta and white rice for whole grain varieties (brown). 3- Start your day with a breakfast cereal that clearly states it is made with whole grains. 4- Mix wild rice with white rice, or switch to brown rice. 5- Use wholemeal breadcrumbs to create a crunchy topping in savoury dishes. 6- Choose rice cakes, rye crispbread, muesli bars with oats or other whole grains or plain popcorn as a whole grain snack.

### Why should I look for whole grains in my breakfast cereal?

Whole grain provides a range of vitamins, minerals, fibre, starch and other nutrients – that’s why it’s often recommended we eat three to four services a day (Eatforhealth.gov.au 2015, 'How much should I eat from the grain (cereal) group?' para. 5). Breakfast is a good way to get some whole grain early in the day.
