In 2021, we took steps to reduce the amount of packaging used across our core brands.

We worked on reducing the amount of packaging used across our core brands CHEERIOS®, SHREDDIES®, SHREDDED WHEAT® Bitesize and Honey Nut SHREDDED WHEAT®.
On average, packs on-shelf saved approximately 618 tonnes of plastic and cardboard packaging, with CHEERIOS®, SHREDDIES® and SHREDDED WHEAT® Bitesize and Honey Nut SHREDDED WHEAT® packs using between 13% and 15% less than the previous packs.
In addition, the optimised packs helped us use fewer lorries to transport our products to stores.
With fewer lorries an estimated total of 115,000 road miles were saved when transporting our cereals – the equivalent of 4,400 marathons - resulting in a reduction of 180 tonnes of CO2.
The move to transform our packaging portfolio is part of the business’s wider commitment to make breakfast whilst taking positive steps on our impact and it contributes to our global target to achieve zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
